Kia Kaha te Reo Māori

It is Maori Language week and we kicked it off with a bang! In recognition of this significant milestone, on Monday 14 September at 12pm, we celebrated Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori | The Māori Language Moment by singing a waiata. The goal was to have 1 million people speaking, singing and celebrating te reo Māori at the same time! We hope we smashed the goal!

Scooter Skills Thursday 10 September

On Thursday, 10 September,  Maryanne and Tee came to Sunnyhils School to teach us scooter skills. First they demonstrated how to put our helmets on correctly. Then they asked us to check that our scooters were safe. Next Elena and Rebecca showed us how to do the courses which the teachers had set up. We had to get off our scooters to cross the pedestrian crossing and to check the sneaky driveway. We learnt how to control our scooters around cones and to do emergency stops. Aston wore his Scooter Squad vest. He rides to school every morning with the Sunnyhills Scooter Squad.

Howick Historical Village Trip

Today, 5 August, we visited the Howick Historical Village where we learnt about life in the olden days in NZ. The teachers were Mrs Cartwright and Mrs Taylor. In the old classroom we wrote on slate boards. For Arithmetic(Maths) a counting frame was used.

We were able to play with indoor and outdoor toys from that time and we compared them to the toys we play with today.
